Demolition of the Redundant Hill & Rabbit Flats Crib Rooms and its associated above and below ground infrastructure.
Delta Group was engaged by BHP Billiton Iron Ore in May 2014 to conduct the Demolition of the Redundant Hill & Rabbit Flats Crib Rooms and its associated above and below ground infrastructure at Mt. Whaleback, Newman, Western Australia.
With a taut programme with no extension of time allowances and the works requiring to be executed directly adjacent to live haul pack roads, there was a potential commercial risk to BHP Mine Operations regarding some aspects of the demolition.
During the investigation stage of the works, Asbestos Contaminated Material was found at the Hill Crib. Before any demolition works commenced, the ACM was removed from site and disposed at a licence facility, and a clearance by third party hygienist was undertaken.
Delta devised a strategy to execute the works with no disturbance to the haul pack roads and a demolition sequence that despite the additional developments in scope would allow the project to be delivered in 5 days ahead of original schedule. The Project was completed with injury or incident and all BHP required targets achieved.
