Our work for client Lendlease on the Western Sydney Stadium Project has been recognised with a coveted Earth Award from the Civil Contractors Federation (NSW).
Our team successfully demolished the old 20,000 seat Parramatta Stadium before getting to work on a 97,000m3 civil package that included remediating 100,000t of asbestos contaminated soil through the design and construction of onsite containment cells, retention, piling mats, detailed excavation, and final grades to a public realm in preparation for 57,000sqm of hard and soft landscaping.
Like any integrated demolition and civil works programme, the careful sequencing of packages across multiple workfronts was critical. However, Western Sydney Stadium was an extraordinary project with a high profile and significant political and public interest. The NRL had scheduled the opening game of the 2019 Season on Easter Sunday and 30,000 excited fans had bought tickets well in advance. This, combined with our contractual obligations to Lendlease, meant we had to deliver our programme on time to ensure the brilliant new Bankwest Stadium opened without a hitch.
