Abigroup contracted Delta Group to complete civil construction works for the $700m redevelopment of the Queensland Children’s Hospital in central Brisbane.

 
The scope of works included:

  • Demolition of existing 6 storey structure down to basement level.
  • Bulk/detailed excavation works allowing for the construction of reinforced concrete foundations.
  • Concrete infrastructure – slab preparation layer, retention systems and lift core rafts.
  • Supply and placement of batter backfill.
  • Construction of crane bases.
  • Transport logistics, including traffic management and supervision.
  • Site infrastructure – basement stormwater drainage system
  • Site dewatering.
  • Emissions, noise and vibration controls.
  • Removal of asbestos and hazardous waste.

Spanning 15.6 hectares and involving Federal, State and Local Government authorities as well as local residents and businesses, we undertook major civil construction works in a constrained, high density location without disruption to residential amenity and ambience, major arterial transport thoroughfares, or commercial business, retail and hospitality operations – all located within close proximity of the site. Key achievements included:

  • Excavation of 170,000 cubic metres of spoil.
  • 1,500 sqm of detailed earthworks.
  • Capture and removal of more than 20,000t of contaminated materials.
  • Spraying of 7,000 sqm of shotcrete.
  • Set out and installation of more than 400 piles and 1,500 ground anchors.
