Multiplex contracted Delta Group to design and deliver a single source project management solution for the $1b development of Wynyard Place in the heart of Sydney CBD.

 
The scope of works included:

  • Site set up and preparation, including amenities, materials hoist, gantries and full height perimeter scaffold.
  • Structural demolition of two 15 storey towers, the heritage listed Shell House with complete facade retainment, and the strip out and partial demolition of 285 George Street.
  • Construction of crane and mast bases.
  • Design, set out and installation of temporary structures to increase loadout efficiencies.
  • Strict environmental compliance and reporting – emissions, noise and vibration controls.
  • Transport logistics, including traffic management and supervision.
  • Recycling of construction waste materials.
  • Removal of asbestos and hazardous waste.
  • Bulk/detailed excavation works allowing for the construction of reinforced concrete foundations, including lift core rafts.

Working within a very confined site footprint in a highly congested CBD environment, our integrated early works programme had to overcome enormous logistical and technical challenges – including:

  • Australia’s third busiest train station which serviced up to 100,000 commuters each day.
  • One of Sydney’s busiest bus interchanges situated on Carrington Street.
  • A fully operational/accessible pedestrian concourse situated directly beneath the site.
  • Retaining a 70m high facade on the heritage listed Shell House.
  • The ‘live’ George Street Light Rail construction project./li>
  • Large volumes of asbestos.
  • Neighbouring commercial office towers and strict emissions (dust), noise and vibration controls.
